On Saturday, 14th December, 23 members of TKD Schweiz from Baden and Spreitenbach participated in the Swiss Open Competition in Niederhasli, ZH. The day began early, with all participants arriving for registration by 8:30 AM, ready to participate in the opening ceremony.
With over 250 competitors—mainly from across Switzerland—the event was a great display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship.
Our students excelled across various events, particularly in Tul, where the performances in the Children’s and Youth categories were outstanding. The medal count reflects the dedication and hard work put in by our members, as they showcased their very best.
Speed Kick was a popular and competitive category. Our younger members demonstrated incredible speed and endurance, shining through despite the tough competition.
Sparring presented a unique challenge for our team. The usual rules and systems we train for were replaced with a point-stop system, which we had only briefly practiced before the championships. Nevertheless, our students rose to the occasion, delivering impressive performances.
In the individual Sparring, Moritz, Emily, and Olaf stood out, winning Gold and Silver medals respectively through their skill and determination.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Team Sparring events:
In the Youth Team Sparring, Elio, Alexander, and Sergio faced opponents larger and older but showed no fear. They gave everything for their team and their school, demonstrating immense courage and fighting spirit.
The Adult Team of Green Stripes also faced seasoned Black Belt opponents. Despite the challenging match-ups, they displayed remarkable courage and skill against strong competition.
A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches on the day, Barbara Longo, Simona Petriello, and to Melanie Muntwyler for her excellent work as a referee.
On behalf of our school and Black Belt members, I want to extend heartfelt thanks to all participants, as well as the parents for their time, support, and encouragement during this important event.
Lastly, our gratitude goes to the Taekwon-Do Association Switzerland, especially the organisers and helpers from Davos and Winterthur for putting together such a successful and well-run competition.
